The Chamfer and 3 Square Grooves is part of our Modern range of MDF skirting boards. Machined to order in our UK workshop from moisture-resistant (MR) MDF for a smooth, install-ready finish. Choose your thickness, height, length and finish. Available un-primed for site preparation, or fully primed / undercoated to save decorating time.
The Chamfer and 3 Square Grooves is part of our Modern collection, with clean, minimal lines suited to contemporary new-builds and renovations. If you’re matching up doors and windows, the Chamfer and 3 Square Grooves is also available as matching architrave, machined from the exact same profile so everything lines up. And like every profile we cut, it pairs with our MDF wall panelling and wall mouldings range too, so you can carry the same look further up the wall.
A couple of things customers often ask about the Chamfer and 3 Square Grooves: “Can I get it in more than one thickness?” — yes, just choose your thickness, height, length and finish above and we’ll cut it to order. “Will it work in a bathroom or kitchen?” — yes, it’s machined from moisture-resistant MDF, so it copes with everyday humidity far better than standard timber. “Can I try before I commit to a full order?” — absolutely, use the Request a sample button above and we’ll post one out to you.
From raw MDF to your finished profile, every step happens under one roof at our West Midlands factory.

Every Chamfer and 3 Square Grooves is machined to order, so you choose the exact thickness, height, length and finish to suit your project. Not sure what to pick? The guides below walk you through each option, and our team is always happy to help.
The most popular choice for new-build homes and widely used by national house builders. Ideal where you're replacing existing 15mm skirting or working to a tighter budget.
Our standard thickness and the choice for the vast majority of renovation and refurbishment projects. 18mm gives a substantial feel and excellent durability without looking oversized.
Chosen for larger rooms, high-specification homes and premium developments where a more substantial finish is desired. Pairs particularly well with taller skirting and decorative mouldings.
Height has one of the biggest impacts on the finished look of a room. There are no fixed rules, but matching the height to your ceiling height, room size and property style creates a balanced, professional finish.
Smaller boards give a clean, understated look and are common in newer builds. A good choice when matching existing skirting without making a room feel heavier.
Our best-selling range suits the vast majority of UK properties, enough presence to frame a room beautifully without overpowering it. If you're unsure, this is what we recommend.
Taller boards create a premium, luxurious look and keep the right proportions in bigger spaces. Popular in period homes, barn conversions and high-end developments.
| Ceiling height | Recommended skirting height |
|---|---|
| Under 2.4m | 94–144mm |
| Standard 2.4m | 144–169mm |
| Over 2.4m / period property | 169–219mm |
The right board length can save time and money on site. Longer boards reduce the number of joins for a cleaner finish; shorter boards are easier to transport and manoeuvre.
Suitable for the majority of installations and often chosen where rooms are smaller or access is restricted. Easier to carry upstairs and position during fitting.
Lets many walls be completed in a single length, reducing visible joints for a cleaner, seamless appearance. Popular in open-plan homes and commercial installs.

Complete the look with matching architrave in the same profile to frame your doors and windows for a consistent finish throughout the property.
Shop matching architraveMany online retailers simply advertise products, then pass your order to a third-party manufacturer. At Cutting Edge we make every board ourselves, quality check every order and dispatch directly from our own West Midlands factory. When you contact us, you're speaking to the people who actually make your order, not a call centre or marketplace.
Every board is produced from premium High Density Moisture Resistant (MR) MDF. Unlike natural timber it has no knots, splits, shakes, grain defects or resin pockets, and is far less likely to warp, twist, bow, shrink or expand. The result is a straighter, more consistent product that's easier to install and takes a superior painted finish.
